Domain Name Selling, Buying and Investing Revisited.

educatetowin

After doing some research and data gathering of domain names, I was able come up an equation that predicts the probability of the domain names being sold on eBay. It was one late night on January 22, 2008, while I got back from work. I thought to myself, ‘is it possible to predict the probability of a given domain name being sold for given price on eBay and what is the chance of it being sold?’ Starting with these two questions, I start to tabulate the data on eBay auctions and analyze them. It took me three days to come to a conclusion. . . There is a domain name equation! Yes that’s right, an actual mathematical formula! Eureka! I found it. I really, really found it. It was something like Y= a/(X+b) +C. I almost drop off my couch when I saw this graph that I have plotted. My wife thought I was obsessed. I was and am still. I am currently writing these data results on my upcoming book to be released by the end of May 2008 (hopefully). I guarantee you, whether you are an old domainer or a new domainer you will see domain name investment in a new light. Like Archimedes or Newton who first discovered their theorems, I felt just like that.

Looking forward to release this very important information soon.

Sincerely,

Dr.Sipa Chansavang,

How to Make Your Auction Headline Look Even Better!

Ever wonder how to make your auction description look better? Well, believe it or not there are websites that allow you to create your own fancy font title and insert it into your eBay auction! It look really cool and it will definitely make your auction look terrific. Go to Google and search for the keyword “free online logo”. You should come across a link called “Cool Text: Logo and Graphics Generator.” Go ahead and try it. When you are happy with your title just save to your computer and upload to eBay auction.

Another neat thing to do is adding animation to your auction (not too much though, as it can be distracting). You can get these animation for free on the search engines by typing “free public domain animated gif”.

Cheers!

How To Insert Video In Your Auctions:

Video is one of the most convincing media to represent a product or service that you are auctioning. In order to insert a video into your auction, you must upload the video to your video hosting provider. I use YouTube because it is free (There are also others like DailyMotion, Guba, etc). Let’s assume that you choose YouTube as your video hosting provider. First you need to create an account with YouTube and upload the video there (it takes over 10 minutes to load a 50 meg video (depending on the speed of your internet). After you upload your video, you will have to wait another hour or so for the video to finish processing on the YouTube video server. Once that is completed, you can view your video on YouTube. If you are happy with the video you can cut and paste the lines of code called “<object>”. The lines of code is found on your left handside of your YouTube video page labeled “Embed” with the code line looking something like this:

<object width=”425″ height=”355″><param name=”movie”…

You must copy and paste this embeded code to your text editing program (like Microsoft Notepad) for later in order paste it onto your eBay auction (see below for more details). Next you need to do the following steps:

1. Edit your auction using the “Standard” editing format (it is as easy as your word processor). Type the word “Video Goes Here” as your tag so you can easily search for it when you are in HTML coding script (see next step)

2. Once you happy with your auction description, you can now add the video. To do this click on “HTML” tab to edit in HTML code script. Go down to the line code where you typed “Video Goes Here” and insert the embedded code line that you copied from YouTube. NOTE: You can not preview your YouTube video on eBay preview page! This is a flaw in the eBay Auction editing program, but don’t worry- just publish it and it should show up on your live auction.

That’s it! Yes, it’s that simple. You may play around with your auctions to get it right. It took me an hour or so until I got it figured out. Good Luck and I hope you enjoy your new found knowledge.

Cheers!

Where do you get domain name evaluated for Free?

The secrets are out! Domain names can be evaluated for free using free online domain appraisal. The websites to go to are www.swiftappraisal.com and www.nameboy.com. You can also check my old website regarding domain name evaluation: http://domainfortune.com/DNevaluation.html

Other websites to visit are DNJournal.com, Sedo.com, Afternic.com and eBay domain auctions.

Domain name value ultimately depends on how much your buyer is willing to pay for it. Some experts say that old domain names with previous traffic are worth alot. I caution investing in these domain names. Unless, your online business is related to these domain names, it is not worth buying them as some of them actually bring unwanted clients to your websites (for example adult-related websites). Again it all depends on your type of business. Remember traffic does not translate to money. Making money through adsense from old traffic only last less than six months as the search engines will figure out that the websites are no longer active. My best advice is to get good domain names related to your websites and build good content. Good and trustworthy information is a diamond in the rough.

How to Pick or Evaluate a Domain Name:

To pick a good domain name whether for selling or for your own website, the following criteria should be considered:

1. It should be meaningful and relevant

2. It should be short, simple and concise (should not be more than 15 letters)

3. It is easy to spell and pronounce

4. Choose dot com first even if your company is non-profit organization or an internet-related company. You should try to register at least dot org, dot net and/or your country code domain names if you can afford it to prevent the cybersquatters from taking them in the near future.

Of course, there are exceptions. People’s names are one example where the spelling and the length may not matter as much. Another example is the combination of two or three meaningful and popular long word phrases like HotCommercialProperty.com.

Here is what you should avoid when you choose a domain name:

1. Avoid dashes; it is not intuitive for your clients and can be confusing when the domain names contain three words or more. Imagine if your domain name is “We-Rich-Now.com.” Your clients can easily make mistakes by typing “WeRich-Now.com” and it could lead to “Server not found” web page. The only exception is that if your company name actually contains dashes. In this case, you want to register both (dashes and non-dashes domain names). Some experts claim that dashes are search engine friendly. This may be true years ago, but I believe search engines are a lot more smarter now. In addition, when I search google for some information, I rarely get directed to websites with domain name containing dashes. Try it and see for yourself.

2. Avoid numbers unless you are willing to register both the numbers and the spellings of the numbers. For example if you own “onecomputercompany.com,” you should also register “1computercompany.com.”

3. Never register trademark domain names for resale later or to drive-in traffic to your websites. It is unethical and it can lead to potential lawsuit.

Having a good domain name for your website definitely show your seriousness about your online business. Good luck searching your ultimate domain name. Next time I will talk about the tools needed to pick the domain names.

Making Money Online is not easy!

No matter what the so-called experts say, making money online is hard. Yes, you need to put alot of time, but even with all the time on your hand it is still hard. There is one exception, however. If you find a niche in your area of expertise than money will come pretty easy. I am a professional tutor and a teacher and I make money through tutoring students. I make over $2400 per month tutoring math and science! Thank the Lord for helping me discovering this hidden income. I also supply for the school board which could earn me between $600 and $2400 depending on how much I want to be on call. These are the only incomes that I know are for certain (at least during the school year).

I am currently trying to sell domain names, but I find that this venture only earns me peanuts. In fact, it is not even worth my time. I post most of my domain names through eBay, but the cost of ads and other admin fees (excluding my labour) is not even worth it. So why do many eBayers selling domain names starting at 99 cents? They are hoping that one of their domain names will hit big (like in the thousands)! I think it is like gambling except you have a better odds of getting most of your money back and maybe lucky enough to win big (several hundred dollars?).

Anyways, I think the next big thing will be how to videos especially a unique, never seen before how to videos that will keep your audience interested. This is where I will focus my efforts in the next few years. I will keep you guys posted.
